Located in the Capital District of upstate New York, Cohoes City School District is a small city school district with a total enrollment of over 2,000 students. We have a vacancy for a Teaching Assistant at the Middle School and one for a Teaching Assistant in the High School. UNLESS APPLICANT SPECIFIES IN COVER LETTER A PREFERENCE; Applicant will be considered for both assignments.

Duties include working with individual students or groups of students on instructional projects or programs; implement and provide support for behavioral management strategies in instructional and non-instructional activities; assist students in the use of available instructional resources; serve as an appropriate role model to students; participate in staff development and training to maintain or develop increased professional capacity.

Special Education Teacher Aides27-52

Roles and responsibilities:

Assist classroom teacher with classroom activities, providing individual support, small and large

group support; Assist classroom teacher in managing student behavior, including intervening in crisis situations, implementing positive behavior support strategies and behavior plans; Maintain classroom routines and assist with behavior issues at the direction of the classroom teacher; Assist students with personal care tasks, such as feeding, toileting and mobility depending on the student's needs; Assist students with any personal or adaptive equipment and assistive devices; Help maintain a safe and organized learning environment, assisting with classroom setup and organization; Communicate with teachers and other professionals as part of the team ensuring effective support for students; Provide the classroom teacher with information and data about students which will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning and behavioral experiences; Assist in supervision of students in various classroom and school activities, during recess, transitions between classes, accompanying students to their "specials"; Supervise and monitor class when teacher is out of the room

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

Good general intelligence, ability to establish good relationships with children and others, familiarity with classroom routine, good background or knowledge in specific field where specialized duties are involved, above average clerical aptitude, resourcefulness in conducting above described activities indirectly related to teaching process, neat personal appearance, ability to maintain discipline, tact, courtesy, good judgment, physical condition commensurate with the demands and duties of the position.
