GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs facility payroll or a segment of a payroll program, which entails the preparation of the regular, lag, and special payrolls.  

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This payroll program is an agency with a payroll of 50 to 500 employees; performs the full range of payroll processing tacks and activities as workload requires.  

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only)

  • Preparation of reports to NYS retirement systems
  • Maintain NYS retirement system records and reports
  • The process of onboarding of new employees and removal of hired separated employees
  • Preparation of W-2 files, social security tax reports and related year end payroll tax reports
  • Tracking the accrual and use of leave credits for employees an application of union agreements
  • Reconcile bank statements, print vendor checks, initiate bank transfers and make journal entries
  • Maintain accurate and organized payroll records and documentation in accordance with policies and state regulations
  • Duties related to data entry to update and maintain software system with employee information, tax rates, benefits deductions and other required data

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Excellent attention to detail; exceptional mathematical and calculation skills; verbal and written communication skills; knowledge of payroll software; knowledge of payroll, garnishments and benefits; multitasking abilities, good research and analysis skills; ability to prepare spreadsheet and reports; exceptional computer skills.

Overview
Cohoes City School District is seeking a dedicated and skilled Computer Support Technician to join our team. Please see the following position description outlining details of this position; (please note this is a NYS approved Civil Service position, and as such applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the position):

Distinguishing Features of the Class: The work involves responsibility for providing technical support and assistance in the installation, operation, and maintenance of the organization's computer systems. The work includes problem-solving in applications of both hardware and software. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Network Administrator, with considerable leeway for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities: (Illustrative Only)

_ Provides technical assistance to employees in the use of equipment, problem-solving, and software malfunctions;

_ Installs, repairs and maintains computers and related equipment, including printers, modems, scanners, cabling, etc.;

_ Operates diagnostic equipment and performs general repair and upgrades;

_ Installs software and maintains software libraries and manuals;

_ Provides basic instruction on the use of equipment, software, and applications to employees;

_ Installs Local Area Networks and Distributed Area Networks for instructional and administrative needs;

_ Maintains problem logs;

_ Maintains equipment, software and parts inventories.

Full Performance knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:

Good knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques utilized in computer systems analysis; techniques and concepts; good knowledge of a wide variety of computer software packages; ability to train others in the use of computers and various software packages; ability to prepare written documentation for system configurations; ability to perform close detail work; tact, courtesy, dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
